CHEMOTHERAPY IN TABLETS

The U.K got a head start on clinical trials of orally administered Athenex's Oraxol in tablet and capsule that would potentially replace intravenous injections to treat cancer during chemotherapy.

“This drug is being developed to replace the regular intravenous injections used during chemotherapy,” informs the Cancer Research UK. Until now, it was considered that it is difficult to replace the drips with something else in cancer treatment.

The drug blocks the action of a protein on the surface of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) enabling the drug substances to reach the bloodstream and attack a tumor. The researchers have planned to study the combination of new drug form with other drugs. The team of U.K. medical professionals hopes that different combinations of drugs and their forms will offer new opportunities to treat the patients with rare cancers.
